I am a proud byproduct of Children's Sunday School.
I was 9 years old when I first attended. Me and my sister were invited by our neighbor's daughter who was then a children's Sunday school teacher. I can proudly say that because of Sunday School, I grew up knowing and fearing the Lord.
When I came back from my studies in Manila I started to be involved in the Children's Ministry. My childhood experience and the impact of Sunday school on my life made me want to serve the Lord in this ministry. To be honest, it was tiring but once the children showed up my soul felt invigorated. We get to enjoy our age-appropriate worship and have a blast learning about Jesus together.
Then I became a parent. The weight of pointing a child to a life of following Christ was back on my shoulders again- for real this time. As a Christian mom, I found a new purpose for children’s ministry: Supporting and equipping families as they pursue Christ every day in their homes and in their communities. To say that I have been involved in all sides of the children’s ministry is not an understatement. I’ve been the child in the classroom; a teen volunteer; and now, the ministry superintendent.
Here are just some of my favorite reasons why I believe in Children's Sunday School.
I remember back then, there was a boy. And he definitely tried every teacher's patience in class. They really had to put up with him a lot! The teachers kept at it as they taught, served, and corrected his well-intentioned, but annoying little habits. Now, he turned out to be a God-loving well-behaved teenager. He even became one of my prayer warriors when I was trying to conceive. when I got the good news that I was pregnant, he personally texted me and said, “Ninang, answered prayer tayo!” That was such a rewarding experience!
Indeed, serving in the Children's Sunday School ministry matters a lot. It matters to God. It matters to the parents of these children. It matters to the mission of our church.
