Our Beautiful Story

"I will build my church!" Jesus said.

In 1987, a missionary-pastor from the Conservative Baptist Association of the Philippines (CBAP) came to Dagupan City, Pangasinan with a vision of planting a vibrant congregation among the Pangasinense. Together with his wife Elizabeth, and daughters Dotty and Christine, Rev. Edgar Canonigo started conducting home Bible studies among his newfound friends and eventually was able to gather a congregation of about twenty families for their first Sunday Worship in 1988 at the Golden Cowry Restaurant in Bonuan, Catacdang. The group was initially called Dagupan City Christian Fellowship (DCCF).

The congregation continued to grow as more families came to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Local leaders were trained to do ministries such as preaching, bible studies, and church management. Church planters were also sent to build more churches in other municipalities like Lokeb Malasiqui, Mangatarem, Mangaldan, Infanta, Labrador, Urbiztondo, Binamaley, and San Carlos City.

In 2010 Rev Ed Canonigo together with his wife Beth left for the US. The reins of leadership were given to Elder Renato Ferrer- a homegrown disciple with an equal passion for church planting. Together with his family and fellow leaders in the church, Elder Nato faithfully led the church until the Lord called him home in 2020.

DCCF changed its name to The Living Word Christian Fellowship, then officially to One Body One Lord Christian Fellowship (OBOLCF) when it registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

OBOLCF-Dagupan called in new pastors to lead its ministries. Rev. Isabelo Montejo Jr. came in 2011 and was succeeded by Rev. George Cao in 2019.

Last November 2021, Rev. Daniel S. Gabasa joined OBOLCF-Dagupan as its new Senior Pastor and has been leading the ministry since then. Together with all its leaders and members, OBOLCF continues to pursue its God-given vision driven by a strong passion for God and genuine compassion for people!

Our Statement of Faith

  1.  We believe that the Bible is God’s Word, that it was written and uniquely inspired, that it is absolute, trustworthy and has supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.
  2. We believe in God the Father, Creator of heaven and earth, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers, and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Christ Jesus.
  3. We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, sinless in life, making atonement for the sin of the world by His death on the cross. We believe in His high intercession for His people and visible pre-millennial return to the world according to his promises.
  4. We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convince the world of sin, of righteousness and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and comfort those who believe in Jesus Christ.
  5. We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners, but that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. We believe therefore that whoever accepts Christ as Lord and Savior will rejoice in God’s presence and those who refuse to accept Christ as Lord and Savior will forever be separated from God.
  6. We believe in the church as a living spiritual body by which Christ is the Head and of which all regenerated people are members. We believe that the local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, buried with Him in baptism and associated for worship, teaching, work and fellowship. We believe that to those visible churches are committed for observance (till “He comes”) the ordinances of baptism and Lord’s Supper; and that God has laid upon those tasks of persuading a lost world to accept Christ as Savior and to enthrone Him Lord and Master. We believe that human betterment and social improvement are essential products of the Gospel.
  7. We believe that every human being is responsible to God alone in matters of faith.
  8. We believe that each church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical and political authority that therefore, church and state must be kept separated as having different function and fulfilling its duties free from the dictates or patronage of others.

The People We want to Become

The most important aspect of our church is the product we produce. That product is a devoted disciple.

We define a disciple as a person who is:

  • committed to Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
  • pursuing a life that is consistent with His character and values.
  • practicing spiritual disciplines like worship, prayer, fellowship, stewardship, Bible study, service, and evangelism.
  • engaged in a significant ministry that builds up the church
  • and aggressively fulfilling a personal mission that endears people back to God.
